Baring any last minute re-alignments, members of the 10th Senate are poised to elect former Zamfara State governor Abdulaziz Yari and Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu as President and Deputy Senate president on Tuesday June 13, 2023.
9News Nigeria gathered Wednesday morning, that despite the meeting scheduled between President Tinubu and all APC senators-elect, Sen. Yari is most likely to emerge as president of the 10th Senate next week.
Already a camp known as the Yari Squad has emerged with the sole purpose of installing the former Governor as president of the Senate.
The Yari Squad according to our source, is made up of all former governors in the senate, all former senate presidents, former governors, current governors, majority of the APC senators-elect and over 41 minority senators across all political parties.
It was also learnt that the South East caucus had earlier endorsed Kalu for Senate President but later convinced Kalu to align with Yari for a formidable force. Yari Squad also settled for Orji Uzor Kalu, whom they consider to “carry heavy political weight and affluence. The alliance of the two has further strengthened the group and making it humanly impossible to secure the office of the Senate President and Deputy Senate President.
