10th Senate: Group Endorses Orji Uzor Kalu For Senate President

Following the conclusion of the 2023 general elections, the team leader of Every Lagosian Matters (ELM), Hon. Kenneth Ibe-Kalu and members have congratulated the President Elect, Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

The group also endorsed the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for Senate President at the 10th Senate.

In a press conference at IBIS Hotel Lagos, Ikeja on Tuesday, Hon. Ibe-Kalu prayed that the Almighty God who has enthroned Tinubu to the highest office in the land will equally give him the wisdom and strength to lead the country out of its present quagmire to a land of hope, unity, progress and prosperity.

While congratulating Governor Sanwo-Olu for winning his second term bid, the group leader further called on other contestants to see election as a competition where a winner must emerge and losing is not a sign of weakness but rather time and chance happens to them all says the Holy Scriptures.

He called on His Excellency to reconcile and harmonise all interest groups with a view to galvanising Lagosians for the task ahead of building a greater Lagos.

The group leader further appealed to the All Progressives Congress leadership including the President-Elect to consider zoning the office of the Senate President to the South East in the spirit of federal character principle.

According to him,

“Members of ELM present,

“Gentlemen of the Press, Ladies & Gentlemen

“I welcome you to this opportune and timely press conference, dwelling on the outcome of a keenly contested Presidential and National Assembly elections held on 25th February and Governorship and House of Assembly Elections held in twenty eight states of the Federation on 18th March, 2023.”

“First of all, we wish to congratulate the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and its entire support systems for winning the Presidency for the third time since 2015 it took the rungs of power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

“We wish to use this medium to formally congratulate Nigeria’s President –Elect, Bola Tinubu for keeping a date with history in the recently concluded Presidential election where he came tops in a hotly contested three chord race. We pray that the Almighty God who has enthroned you to the highest office in the land equally give you the wisdom and strength to lead this country out of its present quagmire to a land of hope, unity, progress and prosperity. Nigerians quest for a country that will stop devouring its inhabitants through numerous security breaches.”

“We congratulate His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for winning the 18th March, 2023 governorship elections with wide margin, an attestation that you are in tune and at home with every Lagosian. The election generally was conducted in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility except for minor skirmishes in few places. The election met the yearnings of Nigerians as upload of results were real-time by INEC.”

“We use this opportunity also to call on all contestants to see election as a competition where a winner must emerge and losing is not a sign of weakness but rather time and chance happens to them all says the Holy Scriptures.
We call on His Excellency to reconcile and harmonise all interest groups with a view to galvanising Lagosians for the task ahead of building a greater Lagos.”

“We further call on H.E the Governor to always see himself as the Father of Lagos State and Lagosians while looking into grey areas that have been the source of agitation with the aim of ameliorating them.”

“We call on Lagosians to join hands as usual to support the developmental vision of the action Governor of Lagos State as he commence his last term in office from 29th May, 2023, while we would like to remind His Excellency to use this four years new mandate to build enduring legacies thus immortalizing your name in the annals of history and the hall of fame as a leader of modern Lagos.”

” We wish to congratulate the Lagos State All Progressives Congress Chairman, Hon. (Pastor) Cornelius Ojelabi and all Exco members for leading the Party to victory. We also thank the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) for being a pillar of support behind H.E Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”

” We generously congratulate and thank Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu for her spiritual leaning and exemplary leadership she provided to the Women of Lagos throughout the fours and during the campaign.”

” We thank the people and leaders of Ndigbo and all every other ethic that show love and support for the Governor and the APC during the campaign and voting proper.”

” We congratulate the Christian community led by Bishop Stephen Adegbite for the stout support for His Excellency.”

” We congratulate the Director-General of the Independent Campaign Council (ICC) for the hard work to make this win possible.”

” We cannot thank His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State enough for the donation of One Hundred Million Naira Only (N100,000,000.00) to the Akere Motor Parts Dealers Association (AMPDA), and the foundation laying ceremony for rebuilding the market. It was indeed a show of uncommon love and kindness.”

” ZONING OF POLITICAL OFFICES
On the national front, we call on political leaders of thought to synergise and always sue for national reconciliation and peaceful co-existence as paramount factors of national survival. To this end, we appeal to the All Progressives Congress leadership including the President-Elect to consider zoning the office of the Senate President to the South East in the spirit of federal character principle.
Furthermore, the most qualified among the senators from the South East who have cognate and requisite experience, and exposure about Nigeria’s diversity is Distinguished Sen Orji Uzor Kalu, the current Chief Whip of the 9th Senate., a former Governor and an incisive Entrepreneur and political bridge builder. This will go a long way to rejuvenate trust and contribute to the development of our nation.
