The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) revealed that 11 local government areas in Abia State, may deeply be involved with flood as the raining season surfaces.
Some communities in the 11 Local Government out the 17 Local Government areas in the state are serious placed on alert of the pending flood disaster, which may likely occur between July and September 2024.
The Agency clearly state that the Aba North, Aba South, Osisioma Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Umuahia North, Umuahia South and Umunneochi will deeply be affected.
This was disclosed during a one day sensitisation program at Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia.
The Agency Director- General, Zubaida Umar called on the Abia State Government to put all hands together to enable they prepare so hard ahead of this flood alert.
Umar, said that the essence of the event was to arm the stakeholders with the necessary information about flooding prediction in their environment and prepare them for proactive measures to minimize the impact of flooding on the people.
