As 2020 celebration day draws near,Nigerians are lamenting over the increase of food commodities, fuel hike, building materials and bad condition of roads scattered across the country.

The most heartbroken is the unethical attitudes of majority of police officers along Nigerian roads.

Often times, we hear announcements by relevant agencies asking the Federal Government to shut down police road-blocks on the highways and possibly reduce the number of checking points believing that same government would have implemented this through a bill in the floor of the Senate and put efforts to put to action to introduce other descent measures to punish traffic offenders and more or less check on vehicles boarding human beings and sensitive materials on our roads.

Though the order has come from the inspector general of police severally for police officers to conduct themselves in a manner that will improve the police force but the worst has come to play on Nigerian roads having situations where officers on duty lobby to be posted on roads were they make huge sum of money from transporters and depend on the largesse they will make on the roads on daily basics to sustain their pockets.

This situation has become more worrisome in the south and south eastern states where more than ten police checking points can be found on a particular short distance road. It is not like this in the northern part of this country to put the record straight and their roads are better.

9News Nigeria has it that along Anambra/Imo state high way, one can count up to twenty police check points within a distance of one kilometre.

Between portharcourt Airport and Owerri CBN area about thirty nine checking points. From Berger lagos state to Ogun state and up to Ore alot of checking points have also emerged and so on.

Despite the fact that the roads are in bad condition and a journey of one hour may end up turning into three or four hours, the police, army and sometimes road safety officials are using checking point make daily pay and in the process frastrate travelers, movement and causes trafic congestion all over the country.

The people are questioning the legislators in whose hands powers to make laws has rift the unprofessional ethics of law enforcement officers on Nigerian roads.

Again, a call in the right direction is to enforce the law as established in the constitution to caution ailling police office who continues to endulge in this kind of stop and search and collection of money from our motorists at various checking points.
