Extensive Investigations by 9news Nigeria have shown how loyalty to Tinubu cost Osinbajo AGF’s job in 2005, His cat and mouse encounter with Obasanjo.
A fresh revelation has emerged about how Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, pointedly rejected the juicy offer to be Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, because of his loyalty to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is in contrast to the assertion that the dummy sold by Tinubu’s Camp that Osinbajo is Judas Iscariot (A betrayer) because of his Presidential Ambition.
This was in 2005, at the time Osinbajo, held a similar position in the government of Tinubu, who was Governor of Lagos State at that time and who was having a serious battle with Obasanjo over the withholding of Lagos State funds over the state’s unilateral creation of some council areas.
The fresh revelation, which came from a veteran journalist, Mustapha Ogunsakin then followed up by 9news Nigeria is to debunk the allegation that Osinbajo, who declared his ambition to contest the office of the President, is disloyal to Tinubu, equally seeking the same office.
Tinubu’s camp has since the VP made his ambition known, descended on him with the tar of a betrayer, saying he ought not to enter the race, knowing that Tinubu, his godfather was interested in the number one job, citing the fact that it was the former governor that also nominated him for his present job.
“In 2005, President Obasanjo invited Osinbajo to take an appointment as the Attorney-General of the Federation after Chief Akin Olujimi left office. Obasanjo saw the sterling qualities and performance that Osinbajo had as Attorney General of Lagos.
“ The president without informing Bola Tinubu, the then Lagos State Governor, offered the post to Osinbajo who was then Lagos State Attorney-General. The first thing Osinbajo did was to inform his principal, Tinubu, who gave him a free hand to make his decision,” Ogunsakin said.
Giving further details, he said: “Osinbajo made a request to Obasanjo to release Lagos State Council funds. Obasanjo replied that Osinbajo should first take the appointment and then advise him as Attorney-General of the Federation on the matter.
“Osinbajo went underground and for weeks Obasanjo could no longer reach him. It was obvious to the then-president that Osinbajo deliberately avoided him; he went on to appoint Chief Bayo Ojo as his Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
“Osinbajo rejected the position of Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and stayed with Tinubu; nobody complained then. He did not betray Tinubu then.
“But now when it is convenient for them, some political and religious bigots are shouting betrayal! Everyone knows that if you want to hear the story of how your father met your mother, join politics.
“Anyone criticising Osinbajo over his presidential ambition should so based on valid facts and not lazy, religious and political lies that reveal your foolishness and hatred for a man who is doing his best to make his country and people better.”
