The Youths of Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency have out rightly rejected what they called “overtly or covertly coercion of political office holders and appointees with threats of sanction for failing to support” the preferred aspirant of Governor Udom Emmanuel. Asserting that Governor Udom Emmanuel should allow the people of the State to choose who becomes their next governor.
In their Press briefing address to the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Akwa Ibom State Council, the Youth leaders urged the People’s Democratic Party PDP to micro zone the governorship position to Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency for justice, fair play and the straightening of records for posterity reason.
Speaking through their leader, Barr. Bassey Bassey, the youth group noted that the reason for zoning was a concerted effort of ensuring that all segments in the Senatorial Districts of the Akwa Ibom have a feel of the seat of government when it rotates.
Barr. Bassey avered that those against the micro zoning lacks knowledge of the fact that zoning “is stipulated in Section 7(3) of the PDP Constitution and must be strictly adhere to, though many are many that it is unconstitutional, we make bold to say that jurisprudence behind federal character is derivable from the principles of zoning. …zoning like the principles of necessity is not just logical but constitutional and democratic.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, through its Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk assured the youth leaders of publicizing their message noting that the union will not take side, but stand as a platform for all to propagate their political ideologies. He urged the the youth in their political activities to always envision the unity, love and togetherness of the state in all their doing.
