Female deputy governors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on the party leadership to support the emergence of at least one female governor in each geographical zone ahead of 2027 general elections.
The call is part of the renewed efforts to boost women’s political representation and inclusion in Nigeria:s governance structure, where female leadership at the state level remains significantly low.
The deputy governors emphasised that backing qualified female candidate would not only promote gender balance but also strengthen the party’s democratic credentials and broaden its appeal among voters nationwide.
They urged party stakeholders to create enabling conditions, including fair primaries and institutional support, to ensure women stand a realistic chance of clinching governorship tickets.
The move comes as political activities begin to father momentum ahead of 2027 Nigerian general elections, with increased advocacy for inclusivity and equal opportunities across party lines.
