2027: Atiku speaks after joining ADC

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that “the real opposition has begun” as he charts a new political course ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the declaration on Monday, moments after receiving his ADC membership card at his Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State. The move ends months of speculation following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said, “Now I have picked up my membership card of the ADC. Now, the real opposition has begun. We will chase the APC out of government.”

The former PDP presidential candidate urged his supporters nationwide to immediately register with the ADC, describing the party as a “new political front” capable of reshaping Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

Adamawa ADC Chairman, Shehu Yohanna, who coordinated Atiku’s registration, said the former vice president’s entry officially signals the rollout of statewide registration across all local governments and wards.

He called on Nigerians, particularly women and youths, to join the party in preparation for the 2027 polls.

The National Secretary of the ADC Registration and Mobilisation Committee, Senator Sadiq Yar’Adua, echoed Atiku’s message, urging citizens to register, vote and “take ownership of the nation’s political future.”

The ceremony attracted several top political figures from Adamawa, signalling, observers say, a major political realignment. Among those present were former Governor Bindow Jibrilla, Senator Aishatu Binani, Senator Ahmed Barata, Senator Aziz Nyako and Senator Ishaku Abbo.

Atiku resigned from the PDP in July, accusing the party of straying from its founding principles and failing to provide credible opposition.
