Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has announced his intention to contest for a senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday, Sani lamented that many of today’s youths, who are of the same age as those who led the country during the return to democracy in 1999, have limited their potential to content creation and social media engagements.

He stressed that while creativity and digital influence have their place, they cannot replace the impact of direct political participation in shaping the nation’s destiny, urging Nigerian youths to move beyond social media influence and actively participate in politics.

“Many of Nigeria’s youths, who are the same age as the leaders of 1999, are now content creators and social media influencers. This cannot change a nation or shape it according to your dreams. The youths need to be involved in politics,” he said.

Sani, a civil rights activist and former lawmaker, noted that genuine national transformation requires the active participation of young people in governance and policy-making, not just commentary from the sidelines.

He encouraged the youth to take up leadership roles at all levels.
