The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Bala-Bello Tinka, has promised free fuel for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators if elected governor in 2027.
Tinka made the pledge during an interview with a local radio station in Gombe on Thursday.
He said the initiative would be part of measures to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on commercial transport operators.
As an immediate intervention, Tinka also announced a one-day free fuel distribution for Okada and Keke Napep operators to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
He said eligible operators could collect fuel at designated filling stations across the state between 6am and 6pm on October 1, 2026.
“On October 1st, from 6 am to 6 pm, any Okada rider and Keke Napep operator should go to our designated filling stations and collect fuel free of charge,” he said.
Tinka said the gesture was intended to reduce the financial burden on transport operators and allow them to celebrate Independence Day without spending money on fuel.
He further promised to sustain the free-fuel programme if elected governor, describing it as part of his proposed palliatives for commercial transport operators.
Free Healthcare
Tinka also promised free medical treatment for children below five years and residents aged above 70.
He said the policy would ensure that vulnerable residents could access healthcare regardless of their financial circumstances.
“No child should die because the parents cannot afford hospital bills, and no old person should be left to die,” he said.
Agriculture, Local Contractors
On agriculture, the ADC candidate proposed sourcing fertiliser from local wholesalers instead of purchasing directly from manufacturers.
He said the policy would keep more government spending within Gombe and boost local businesses.
“If we buy from local wholesalers, the money will stay in Gombe, it will circulate among our people and boost our local economy,” Tinka said.
He also promised to prioritise indigenous contractors in the execution of government projects.
According to him, contractors from outside the state would only be engaged where the required technical expertise was unavailable locally.
“We have competent engineers, builders and contractors in Gombe. We will patronise them to help our local experts grow,” he said.
Tinka Promises Solution to Water Crisis
Tinka also promised to address the recurring water shortage in Gombe metropolis and other parts of the state.
He said his administration would commission a comprehensive study to determine the root causes of the crisis and develop a lasting solution.
“Water is life, but our people have suffered for too long without water. We will not do temporary fixes,” he said.
Tinka urged Gombe residents to support the ADC in the 2027 elections.
He promised that, if elected, his administration would prioritise the welfare of residents, local economic development and inclusive governance.
