The Senator representing Abia North senatorial district Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has announced that his presidential ambition is on hold until President Bola Tinubu completes a second term in 2031.

Speaking to journalists in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on Wednesday, Kalu emphasized the supremacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has endorsed Tinubu for reelection in 2027.

“I am a member of the APC, and our party has comfortably endorsed President Tinubu,” Kalu said.

“Even if I have presidential ambition, it is in the cooler for now because I cannot fight the party. The party is supreme.”

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election, stating, “At God’s own time, if I still have the energy and resources after President Tinubu in 2031, who says I can’t contest for president? It is possible.”

Kalu, a former Abia State governor and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation also confirmed his intention to seek re-election for the Abia North senatorial seat in 2027, citing his achievements, including over 187 roads and 123 primary schools built in six years.

He praised Tinubu’s performance over the past two years, saying, “The President has done very well within two years. If we give him the benefit of finishing another two years and another term, I think we will see a lot of changes in the economy.”

Addressing speculations about the APC’s early endorsement of Tinubu, Kalu dismissed claims of haste, noting,

“The party did the right thing because we are in the mid-term, and we need to encourage the President to do more. The sitting President has the right to re-contest, and we will support him hundred percent.”

Kalu acknowledged economic challenges, stating, “President Tinubu knows that people are suffering.

“No president wants his people to suffer.” He highlighted efforts to stabilize the foreign exchange market over the past nine months and predicted economic improvements.
