As the battle for the 2027 elections intensifies, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abba Moro, has hinted at the possibility of Peter Obi and former President Goodluck Jonathan returning to the party and joining the presidential race.
Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, who spoke on Tuesday while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today, disclosed that talks are ongoing over possible return of the duo to the main opposition party.
“So in the run-up to 2027, I am aware certain individuals have been talking to Peter Obi, he may come back home, this is what we are likely to do, and If you come, you stand a chance of being the candidate”, Moro said.

“In the run-up to 2027, I am aware certain individuals have been talking to Peter Obi, Hey, come back home, this what we are likely to do, and If you come, you stand a chance of being the candidate.
“No, as a party we have not spoken to Obi. And so the run-up to 2027, I’m aware that certain individuals have been talking to Peter Obi to come back home” Moro said.
“Well some persons are talking to former President, come and run, and it’s a possibility.
“But there are those who fear constitutionalism based on how many times he has sworn into office, and those who are warning it may be dangerous, but there’s nothing dangerous there.
“You recall that in 2015 when former president Jonathan wanted to run, there were cries all over the case about the constitutionality of his candidature, but eventually it was settled even by the court, that was qualified to run, and that is why he ran”
He added that the conversation is predicated on the belief of such individuals that If Obi comes back and is the most favoured candidate, and the most supported candidate, and becomes a candidate, the PDP will make an impact in 2027 election”.
Obi left the PDP to become Labour Party’s (LP) presidential flagbearer ahead of the 2023 poll.
The former Anambra governor recently pitched his tent with African Democratic Congress coalition.
The Benue Senator’s comment comes in the wake of the main opposition party’s decision to zone presidential ticket to the south.

Responding whether Jonathan may return to the PDP, the Benue born lawmaker said, “Some persons are talking to him to come and run, and it is possibility”.
However, Jonathan has mum in the subject of running for president in 2027.
Asked If selecting Atiku Abubakar as its flagbearer in 2023 election was a mistake, Moro admitted that “as a result of the way elections turned out because Nigerian people spoke, definitely it was an error”.
