The latest Cadre Harmonisé report has revealed a dire food security situation in Nigeria, with 24.8 million people, including 116,765 internally displaced persons (IDPs), projected to face Crisis-level hunger (CH Phase 3) or worse by May 2025.

The alarming statistics cover 26 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), highlighting the urgent need for intervention.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Nigeria Today, the crisis is driven by a combination of factors, including escalating insecurity, worsening economic conditions, and climate-related shocks.

These challenges have severely impacted food production, access, and affordability, pushing millions into deeper vulnerability.

FAO has called for immediate action to mitigate the crisis, urging stakeholders to ramp up humanitarian aid, strengthen agricultural resilience, and address the underlying causes of food insecurity.

Without swift intervention, experts warn that the situation could deteriorate further, threatening livelihoods and national stability.
