Not fewer than three persons were killed while others injured on Tuesday morning around 02:32am after a truck fell off an overhead bridge in Jos, Plateau State capital.
9News Nigeria correspondent gathered that the three persons were trapped under the vehicle and died while over 40 cows were also killed in the incident.
An eye witness, Chung Dusu, a resident said “the incident happened when a truck was climbing the flyover bridge situated within Gada Biyu/Kabong commuinity when it suddenly fell.
He said ” The truck lost control on the Kabong flyover bridge and I saw dead cows littered the ground. Some passengers were trapped under the vehicle as well”
He explained that the driver obviously was not firmiliar with the road, as he came on high speed and didn’t realize there was a norrow bend on the roundabout, he eventually lost control of the vehicle.
The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) in the state, Peter Langsan, confirmed the casualties figures and said both the dead and the injured victims had been evacuated to the hospital.
He said, “Our officers and men have just concluded the rescue operation here, it was an articulated vehicle carrying cows and human beings that fell off bridge.
“Three persons died and three others were also injured. They have been taken to the hospital.
He attributed the accident to over speeding, warned motorists to stop carrying humans in vehicles meant for haulage as it’s hazardous.
