56 years old Bauchi man marries minor of 11, NGOs, public calling for his arrest

A 56years old Bauchi State-based businessman Alhaji Adamu Maichibi just got married to an 11-year old girl.

Alhaji Adamu slammed those who are criticising him for marrying an under-age girl of 11years old. He said “I don’t know why some people should be worried about my marriage. It doesn’t concern them because the parents of the girl are not bothered as they gave her out to me as sadaka as appreciation of what I have been doing for them in the past”. He went further to explain that the girl was bethroned to him when she was one year old. Since then I have taken full responsibility of her upkeep and that of the family. Now that I want to reap the fruits of my labor, some people are complaining. It is my right and my religion allows it. What is their problem?

Alhaji Adamu came under fire from various non-governmental groups across the State which are calling on the State Government to arrest him and the parents of the girl.

Adamu has 3 wives and 15 children before marrying his new child-bride.
“Yes she may be a young girl or under age as you would like to call her but if you see her you will know she is mature enough for marriage and will make a good wife for me, so I don’t see why people should take Panadol on my behalf. I had 4 wives before I married my new wife but before I got married her, I had to divorce one of them as my religion demand of me” Alhaji Adamu Maichibi said.
