The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has launched the distribution of subsidized agricultural inputs to cover 6,000 wheat farmers in Kano State.
The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s special program aimed at boosting wheat production, with government offering a 75% subsidy on the inputs.
Each farmer will receive three bags of fertilizer and 50kg bag of wheat seeds, valued at Eleven Thousand One Hundred Eleven Naira which represents the 25% contribution required by the farmers.
The Minister noted that the initiative is expected to help farmers cultivate 3,000 hectares of farmland in 12 designated clusters across Alkamawa, Bunkure, Ajingi, and Gaya Local Government Areas.
Farmers have expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the support, acknowledged giving that the high cost of inputs and transportation had previously forced many to reduce the size of their farms.
However, they urged the government to ensure the timely distribution of the inputs to allow for early preparations for the planting season.
