As Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Day, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, has reaffirmed the party’s dedication to good governance, social justice, and the rule of law.

In a message commemorating the nation’s independence, signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Olugbenga George S, Gabam called on Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, honoring the sacrifices of the founding fathers while looking toward a future of unity and prosperity.

“Today, October 1, 2024, we commemorate our nation’s 64th anniversary of independence. As we reflect on our journey, we acknowledge the triumphs and tribulations that have shaped our beloved country,” Gabam stated in his address.

The SDP chairman highlighted the nation’s resilience through both military and civilian rule, emphasizing the importance of Nigeria’s transition to democracy in 1999 under General Abdulsalam Abubakar.

He described this shift as a critical milestone in the country’s history, solidifying its path toward democratic governance.

Gabam outlined the SDP’s vision for Nigeria, focusing on three key pillars: unity and inclusivity, economic empowerment, and good governance.

He emphasized the need for every citizen to feel valued and represented, stressing that Nigeria’s vast resources should be equitably distributed to benefit all.

“We recommit ourselves to the ideals of democracy, ensuring that our nation continues to strive toward prosperity and development,” he said.

He further assured that the SDP remains committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law as central tenets of governance.

Gabam’s Independence Day message comes at a time when the nation faces ongoing economic and social challenges.

However, he expressed optimism that with collective effort, Nigeria can build a just and equitable society where opportunities abound for all.

As Nigerians celebrate this historic day, the SDP chairman urged citizens to draw inspiration from the past while focusing on building a better future.

“Let us work together to build a Nigeria that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all,” he concluded.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
