By Francis Xavier:
The atmosphere in Abubor, Nnewichi, Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State was filled with solemn reflection and heartfelt tributes as Promise Okongwu, the Anambra Correspondent of 9News Nigeria, laid his beloved mother, Late Rose Nkechi Adiekwue Okongwu (affectionately known as Mama Ekpere), to rest in her family compound.
Born into the family of Late Louis Chukwueloka Elodimmuo of Uru, Umudim, and married into the home of Deacon Ignatius Adiekwue Okongwu of Abubor, Nnewichi, Mama Ekpere lived a life that radiated peace, love, and unwavering Christian values. She passed on peacefully after a brief illness on May 7, 2025.
Until her transition, she was known by many as a devout believer and a pillar of strength whose life of faith and service deeply impacted all who crossed her path. Her legacy lives on through her children, especially Promise Adiekwue Okongwu, whose journalistic brilliance continues to make waves through 9News Nigeria’s coverage in the Southeast.

As friends, family, colleagues, and well-wishers gathered to honour her memory, the occasion became not only a moment of mourning but a celebration of a life well-lived, one that exemplified kindness, humility, and resilience.
The 9News Nigeria family extends its deepest condolences to Promise Okongwu and the entire Okongwu and Chukwueloka families. We pray for strength during this difficult time and for the peaceful repose of Mama Ekpere’s soul.
May her gentle spirit find eternal rest.
