CAMA LAW: “How can you reap from where you did not sow? It is a criminal act of theft” – DEE blasts FG

Nigerian Blogger, Uncle Dominic Edem, popularly known as DEE has condemned the recent signing into law of the bill amending the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2004 by President Muhammadu Buhari, as he( Dee) made it categorically clear that the government has no right as to regulate church activities.

DEE said that the Federal Government had more problems in its hands to solve than interfering in church activities.

DEE, who spoke with newsmen, has called on the National Assembly to review the CAMA Act, 2020 as quickly as possible to end the controversies it had generated.

In his statement:

It is very wrong for anyone to think of eating from where he/ she did not labour for; I have never for one day seen Nigerian Government include churches in their annual budget, so how do you want to take charge of an institution you have never contributed anything to?
Is like working with Akwa ibom Government, at the end of the month you expect salary from Kogi State Government. Is it not Theft?
If you want to regulate church activities, first sow a seed of development into the church for like 10 years for us to know you can handle it, not for you to wake up a day and start dreaming and planning how to take something that is not belong to you!

Also, He explained that charity organizations which include churches are being regulated overseas because they also enjoy a lot from the government but the situation isn’t the same in Nigeria.

‘We know how it is run in Overseas, a charity organization can get grants from the government, during this pandemic, can the Nigerian government do such?

Section 839 (1) &(2) of the new law provides that the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and a supervising minister will strictly regulate religious bodies and non-governmental organizations. It gives the Registrar-General of CAC power to suspend the trustees of not-for-profit organizations and appoint interim managers to coordinate their affairs, where he reasonably believes there has been misconduct or mismanagement, or where the affairs of the associations are being run fraudulently or where it is necessary or desirable for the public interest.

DEE Fire MEDIA reported that “The new law permits the Registrar-General of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the supervising minister to strictly supervise and scrutinize the financial operations of non-governmental organizations, including religious places, as well as change their trustees. The government and the National Assembly should revisit this law, because the nation’s numerous challenges need the goodwill of the people, especially, the praying houses.”
