NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR DAVID NWEZE UMAHI, FNSE, FNATE TO EBONYI PEOPLE

My good people of Ebonyi State, both at home and in diaspora, today, the first day of January 2021 marks a time of hope, optimism and fresh possibilities.

We look forward as a State to the year 2021 as the opportunity to build on the foundations we have laid together on infrastructure, Agriculture, rapid economic empowerment and human capital development.

Let me use this opportunity to convey our sincere thanks to you all for the support, co-operation as well as contributions to the development of the state since we came on board in 2015.

It is always exciting to see an old year and usher in a new one, more so, having survived the tribulations of Covid 19, the #EndSARS protests and a host of other disturbances that greeted the outgone year.

Although, 2020 has been a very difficult year, we still have reasons to thank God for life and look forward with renewed hopes for a better new year.

Despite the difficulties and challenges of 2020, we still recorded some modest achievements as a people and as a state including but not limited to containment of the coronavirus, the #EndSARS protests, completion of several major projects like the International market, the new government house, industrial clusters, 10 flyovers, the best ecumenical centre in Nigeria, the shopping mall and construction of several roads on concrete pavement, massive economic empowerment through revolving loans and a host of others.

We also strengthened the healthcare delivery system for optimal performance especially during the rage of the coronavirus. For instance, our administration recently handed over an ultra-modern accident and emergency unit to our tertiary health institution, the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital for use as a mark of our commitment to the health of our people. We also offset the medical bills of all patients in all Government and private hospitals across the state during the yuletide.

More than anything else, we have worked assiduously to secure and sustain the peace, safety and security of lives and property across the state such that so far, no incidences of crime and even road accidents have been recorded in the State during this yuletide. We have also strengthened the bonds of unity with the promotion of inclusive governance, social justice and accommodation.

It is important to reiterate with gratitude that these achievements are as a result of the support and cooperation you gave to us in the last year. Together, we have worked hard towards realizing our vision for a truly peaceful, secured and prosperous Ebonyi state.

2021 will also be another busy year for us as we shall be on a fast lane to deliver some critical infrastructures such as the Ebonyi International Airport, the Olympic Stadium, the Shopping mall, the Abakaliki ring road among other landmark projects for use by Ebonyians before the end of the new year.

To this end, massive investments in education, infrastructure, qualitative healthcare and economic empowerment will remain some of our key priorities in line with our projections in the 2021 budget.

And in doing so, no part of the state will be left behind just as we shall also ensure that every person is carried along on our way to building sustainable prosperity for us and our children.

Although our challenges are great and aggravated by the prevailing economic hardship in our country, I urge you to continue to keep hope alive and embrace the New Year with courage and unity of purpose to overcome our adversaries and reap the harvest of hard work, determination and success.

Let us, therefore, continue to demonstrate the values of hard work, patriotism and integrity and strengthen our commitment to building a just, accountable and inclusive society of our dreams where no one is left behind.

Finally, I wish all Ebonyi people a happy, successful and prosperous new year, 2021.

Thank you, and may God continue to bless Ebonyi State.

His Excellency,
Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE
Governor of Ebonyi State
