Mobs consisting of Keke riders in Asaba have laid siege at the Asaba Division A police station causing police officers to flee the station to save their lives from the angry mobs. Some of the police officers had to remove their uniforms wearing muftis as a way to disguise and escape being lynched by the mobs.
Report reaching 9News Nigeria has it that trouble erupted after Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa gave directives restricting the tricycle riders from carrying more than 2 passengers going forward.
Usually the tricycle riders would carry 3 to 4 passengers in order to get more payments considering the high price of gasoline and other logistics involved in the business of keke riding. They complained that if they carry only 2 passengers on a trip that will leave them with almost nothing at the end of the days work.
9News Nigeria correspondent in Asaba witnessed the uproar and reported that the whole of Nnebisi Road environs were taken over by the mob thereby hindering free movements in the area.
