Police extends one hour in Borno’s capital curfew

Borno State command of the Nigerian Police Force has extended the time for curfew in Borno state’s capital, Maiduguri to with one hour.

SP Edet Okon, the state command’s spokesman who disclosed this on Thursday said the curfew will now lasts till 11:00 pm. The curfew previously lasts from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.

According to him, the relaxation was in view of the ongoing fasting by Muslim faithfuls, adding that the new measure will last till further notice.

”In view of the ongoing Ramadan, the Borno State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the adjustment in the starting time of curfew from 10PM to 11PM.

”For clarity and emphasis, henceforth and until further notice, the curfew period will run from 11PM to 6AM daily,’ SP Okon said.

Maiduguri had been under curfew for several years, also with several reviews and adjustments due to the security situation in the state.

However, except for the occasional attacks by the insurgency in outskirts locations, trying to infiltrate into the city, Maiduguri have been enjoying some relative peace and this decision most have also been informed by these realities.

While wishing the Muslim faithfuls a blessed Ramadan, CP Bello Makwashi, the state’s commissioner of police urges all residents of the state to reciprocate the goodwill offered by the state government by continuing to observe the curfew within the new timing.

He also called on members of the public to continue to cooperate with the police and other law enforcement agencies in their quest to ensure a peaceful and crime free society during the holy month of Ramadan and beyond.
