He said the Summit was timing and accurate in view to contain the plights the citizens are faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, economic dundrum and the lingering issue of insecurity in the land.

The Summit with the theme: “Emerging Diseases, Security and Election Challenges: Revealing Strategies for Service Effectiveness, was anchored in preparing Local Government administrations to meet the lingering issues militating with the electorates at the grassroots level.

Assuring  participants that the Summit will be beneficial, Gaya said, “For every follower of the 9th Assembly, I say this with a very deep sense of responsibility because many Nigerian youths don’t follow what we do in the National Assembly. But if you are a follower of what we do in the National Assembly, you would have seen my disposition towards the effective working of the local government.

“I want to thank the leadership of the 9th National Assembly, for dutifully passing the local government autonomy Bill and as well as President Buhari for doing the needful by signing the Bill.

“As a firm believer in the effectiveness of the local government system, it is my expectation that this Summit will proffer additional solutions to how we can strengthen the local government structure particularly as it has to do with preparing and responding to emergencies.

“The challenges in the country today, we have so many displaced people as a result of insecurity, insurgency or electoral violence. In all these challenges, people in the rural areas are mostly affected and we need to find a way and how we can make Local Government respond appropriately and effectively.” Gaya assured.

Gaya affirmed the commitment of the 9th National Assembly to partnering with the Local Governments in the country to improve developments at the grassroots level.
