On Monday, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos adjourned the trial of Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, who is charged with cybercrime, to November 13 and 30.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo postponed the case on Monday due to the absence of the defendant, Naira Marley from court.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Naira Marley on charges bordering on cyber crime/internet fraud.
The EFCC alleged that Naira Marley and his accomplices conspired to use different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud their victims.
The court had however, granted him bail in the sum of two million naira, with two sureties in like sum.
On October 6, Justice Oweibo had issued a warrant for production of the defendant, following his absence from trial on the last date.
When the case was called on Monday, Barr Olalekan Ojo (SAN) informed the court that the defendant remains absent from his trial,despite the court’s order for his production.
Responding to this development, the prosecutor told the court that although she had prayed the court for a production warrant of the defendant, he is still absent.
“My lord, at the last adjourned date, we prayed for a production warrant and the court granted same, however, the defendant is still not produced.
“We pray for a further date in order to follow up with the police,” she said.
The court then adjourned the case until Nov. 13 and 30 for cintinuation of trial.
