I have been thinking about the reason(s) why Nigeria has remained an indivisible country till date, in spite of myraid of agitations, and then it occurred to me.
#1, The North Does Not Want Nigeria To Break Up – because of oil.
The number one reason is the North’s unwillingness to see Nigeria break up. However, I must admit that it is not out of genuine love for Nigeria or other tribes that make up the country. No, it is basically out of love for oil, and out of love for the North.#2, Some Tribes Are Afraid To Declare Their Desire For Independence From Nigeria.
Another clear reason for this is that some tribes in Nigeria, except the Ibos are afraid to declare their desire to have a separate country from Nigeria. It was said that during the conference that preceded our independence, the Yorubas led by Awolowo, and even the North led by Sir. Ahmadu Bello, did not want a unified Nigeria as it exist now. The North only found their “great love” for Nigeria after oil was discovered in commercial quantity in the South. It was only Zik that insisted on one unified Nigeria, even though not exactly as we have it today.
Again, during the build up to the civil war, Chief Awolowo was reported to have said that “if Biafra is allowed to emerge that the Yorubas will also go”. This therefore means that there are other tribes in Nigeria that desires to go from Nigeria, but don’t just have the courage to do so, or as much make the intention known for the fear of the consequences. However, let me say to those who don’t want Nigeria divided or restructured, that they are chasing shadows. The earlier they allow justice, equity and equal rights the better for them. Failure to do this shall spell doom for them and Nigeria. There’s extent to what an oppressed people can take. Nigeria is being oppressed by the Fulani cabal, and their days are numbered. May God help and bless Nigeria.
