We humbly appeal to His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma CON to extend love to Umuoma Nekede as community embark on direct labour rehabilitation of major link road and bridge in the area.
The Traditional Ruler of Umuoma Nekede Autonomous community in Owerri West local government area of Imo state Nigeria, HRH Eze Morrison Soronnadi Eke-PhD has called on the shared prosperity administration under His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma to as a matter of urgency come to their rescue on the terrible condition of their only link road in Nekede.
Eze Omadike who made this call at a Press conference held at the Uzommiri project site in Umuoma Nekede Thursday, stated the reasons why the people of Nekede embarked on direct labour to rehabilitate their link road and bridge.
The Monarch hinted that for several decades past , the road and the bridge linked Nekede and their neighbouring communities of Umualum, Avu, Obinze, Ihiagwa, Umuguma and the city of Owerri.
In the recent past, both facilities became devastated by glacial erosion and negatively affected the lives and property of Ndi Nekede.
Umuoma Nekede community therefore decided to make a way where they cannot find a way. This because the best thing in life must come by efforts from within, not by gifts from the outside, HRH Eze Morrison Eke stated.
In furtherance, the monarch hinted that in rise pat years, because of the poor stare of the road and the bridge, Nekede people could no longer interact freely with their neighbors and in-laws on the other side of the otamiri river.
Such lack of interactions affected birth and funeral ceremonies, emergency exits for medical attention, socio economic and religious functions etc. When faced with such crises , the community decided to fall back on themselves.
Having noted the importance of the otamiri link road, the Umuoma Nekede people under the leadership of the President General Chief Okechukwu Opara commenced the remedial work after the resolution at the ‘Year 2023 Annual Conference of Umuoma Nekede’ held at OHA Hall Nkwonunouyo Umuoma was taken and adopted.
Hon Okechukwu Opara DIKE RI OHA NMA, since his inception as the PG of Umuoma Nekede has proved capacity and loyalty to attract all Nekede son’s and daughters both at home and diaspora to donate resources and materials for work.
Such donations are not enough to get to the completion of the signature project embarked upon by the Umuoma People’s Assembly UPA under Chief Okey Opara and the Traditional Ruler alongside the people of Nekede while calling on the government of Imo State to come to their immediate rescue before the rainy season set in.
The community also applauded the massive infrastructural developments established by the Shared Prosperity Administration under His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma while requesting for his good extension of goodwill to Ndi Umuoma and Nekede at large.
Speaking with Newsmen at the project site, Elder Chime Opara from Nekede ancient kingdom and a respected humanitarian and national political leader in Nekede told Nekede people of the importance of involving the Ministry of Works, Environmental and Ecological departments and most importantly to call on the state government to assist Nekede people on the road and bridge projects embarked upon. The remedial process of work was still ongoing at the time of filling this report by 9News Nigeria Owerri.
While pointing out the importance of the road and bridge to Nekede and Imo people at large, Sir Douglas Eke hinted that the project will certainly engulfed huge resources and pleaded with the generality of the people of goodwill, government officials, political leaders and Nekede Sons and Daughters to join hands to move the work to a conclusion before the raining season sets in.
PG Okechukwu Opara did not mince word in commending Ndi Nekede, Umuoma UPA and community leaders across the Three arms of Nekede which included, Umudibia, Umualum ancient kingdom and Umuoma for showing support and making huge financial donations.
PG Opara promised total commitment to salvage his community and loyalty to the shared prosperity administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma for his unwavering readiness to improve all the communities in the state which Nekede is one among the most priority.
The Engineer handling the project who happens to be a son of the soil, Engr Opara told Newsmen that the work is taken every professional methodology and application of the recent day equipments and standard to give Nekede the best work.
He regretted the shady work done on the so called bridge and condemned the standard. He however told the people of Nekede that there is no bridge yet otherwise a culvert that cannot stand the test of time. He also solicited government attention to aid the completion of the project embarked upon by Umuoma UPA.
In his words, the Traditional Ruler Eze Omadike stated the following:
“This is the the shortest and fastest route to the seat of Government in Imo state Nigeria. We did not want to be cut off from the participation in government affairs and directives.
“The road leads to our farms and its continued impassable state negatively ad drastically affected food production in my community. With the recent economic downturn and the type of hardship being experienced in Nigeria of today, my people will perish unsung without food production.
” I am proud to announce today , Umuoma has a vibrant , proactive and pragmatic President General by name- Chief Okechukwu Opara -DIKE RI OHA NMA. He consulted me and my Eze in council and we said ENOUGH is ENOUGH on this infrastructural disaster.
“We opted to rise to the challenge and today , we are succeeding. We must succeed whether success like it or not. We have decided to be the master of our fate and the captain of our soul. Champions take responsibility. My Umuoma Nekede people are Champions.
“My regime has demonstrated commitment, we have shown capacity and have proved capability. We are today raising our two arms of state Government led by his Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma and also to our friends and well wishers. We request them to intervene and support us to fix this road perfectly well. We have sunk about 16m in this project and the project in yet uncompleted.
“I must at this point appreciate the people of Umuoma Nekede for their liberal hearts and generous donations. When we appealed to them fr assistance, they responded positively.
“My people in diaspora have assisted us great measure and demonstrated “Onye aghala Nwanne ya” attitude. I appreciate them alot.
“As for the individuals and families that have donated millions of naira to this project, may the Almighty God replenish their pockets tenfold. Givers should never lack”
The Monarch ended with the saying “the crisis of today be the joke of our tomorrow” – Omadike prayed.
