Abdulsamad Idris, a 300 Level Medical student of the University ofJos (UNIJOS), died on Friday April 5, in the institution’s clinic after allegedly sustaining severe injuries following an assault by a group allegedly led by a fellow student, Faisal Dahiru Ibrahim.
UNIJOS security unit confirmed the death, saying the corpse had been transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for autopsy.
The Acting Chief Security Officer of the institution, Agama Solomon, said the suspect claimed to have given Abdulsamad N30, 000 to bribe a technician for exam grades but when the results were released and the suspect failed he reportedly orchestrated an attack that led to Abdulsamad’s death.
He noted that the suspect had been apprehended and handed over to the Police.
It was learnt that the incident occurred shortly after both the victim and the suspect completed their final examination in 300 Level. The death of Abdulsalam shocked, and sparked concerns among his peers, who believed that such a violent outcome was unjustified and that he did not deserve to be treated in a manner that led to his death.
