🟢As Motion Against Medical Detention Goes First Reading

At the plenary of IMHA this Thursday May 23, 2024, the Imo State House of Assembly IMHA has adopted the bill sponsored by the Majority Leader Kanayo Onyemaechi and passed same into law to establish a body known as Imo state marketing and commodities board.

However, A bill for a law to repeal the Imo State Marketing Agency Edict No 11 of 1986 and Enact a law to establish the Imo state marketing and commodities board that will be responsible for the Procurement, Distribution and Marketing of commodities in 27 LGAs of Imo State for the purpose of lowering and stabilizing price of the said commodities in the state and for other related matters.

This is targetted for the purpose of lowering and stabilizing prices of commodities for other related matters as stated and approved by the Honourable members.

In furtherance, the law may be cotedvas the Imo state marketing and commodities board law and shall come into force on this 23rd day of May ,2024.

In this law, “BOARD ” means Imo state marketing and commodities board established by this law.

“COMMODITY” means any goods and includes articles which are scarce or essential or which are limited supply in Nigeria.

“DISTRIBUTOR” means a distributor appointed pursuant to the provision of this law.

“GENERAL GOODS ” mean consumer goods other than scarce or essential commodities and include agricultural goods.

“GOVERNOR” means the governor of Imo state of Nigeria.

“MEMBER ” Means a member of the board established under this law and includes the chairman. And “STATE” means Imo state of Nigeria.

However , the bill is segmented into six -6 Parts which Included PRELIMINARY, ESTABLISHMENT AND FUNCTIONS OF THE IMO STATE MARKETING AND COMMODITIES BOARD, MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD AND ITS PROCEEDINGS, STAFF OF THE BOARD AND THE CONDITIONS OF SERVICE; FUNDS, ACCOUNTS AND AUDIT OF THE BOARD and finally MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS.

Recall that this bill was chiefly sponsored by the Honourable members representing Owerri West LGA and the Majority Leader IMHA, Kanayo Onyemaechi. It also attracted the legislative gavel through series of readings passed through that propagated its speedy acceleration.

The passing of this bill into law by the 10th Assembly Honourable members present at the plenary was well applauded as 9News Nigeria reports.

In a related development, Rt Hon Barr Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh sponsored the motion to urge His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma to direct the Imo State Ministry of Health to urgently develop and deliver a programme that will curb medical detention in Imo state.

Motion To Urge The Governor To Direct The Imo State Ministry Of Health To Urgently Develope And Deliver A Programme That Will Cure Medical Detention In Imo State went for first reading.

The Imo State Ministry of Health is established and saddled with the responsibility of providing policies that guarantee the Healthcare of the Imo State populace and also regulate the health care market in Imo state.

Nothing that Medical detention has become a compatable menace within the health care market of Imo state thereby deserving serious attention, the motion was supported holistically by members.

Targetted to rigid the policy plan is the basis of this motion because the policy has been in existence as revealed by the sponsor of the motion.

According to the mover of the motion, Barr Kennedy Ibeh added that the challenge of medical detention requires very urgent attention while the state have a Governor that is attentive to the People of Imo State.

Kanayo Onyemaechi while lending his voice, decried the illegal detection of patience who could not payoff their hospital bills and warned medical practitioners to desist from such abuse of human rights of patients.

Hon Onyemaechi added that patients should not be mortgaged by hospital management for the reason on non payment of medical bills. He however called on good hearted Nigerians and cooperate individuals to help payoff medical bills of indigent patients.

Hon Kennedy Ibeh Chief sponsored this motion and Co-sponsored by Kanayo Onyemaechi, Rt Hon Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Samuel Otibe, Chigozie Nwaneri and others.
