The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi has hosted the Iwo born Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) African Light-Heavyweight Champion, Idowu ‘ID Burster’ Rasheed in his palace along with the leadership of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) following the boxer’s decoration with his UBO belt.
Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi was full of gratitude to the President of NBBofC Dr. Rafiu Oladipo and the Secretary of the body Remi Aboderin for fighting to ensure justice for ID Burster who went to Ghana to defeat the more experinced Bastie Samir in a vacant Universal Boxing Organization title belt on Saturday, April 13th at Kawukudi Park Nima, in Accra, Ghana.
The Ghanaian officials attempted to rob ID Burster of his victory after knocking down his opponent in the round two but the officials of the NBBofC protested by calling the attention of the professional boxing body that sanctioned the fight, UBO to intervene and justice was done by declaring the Nigerian boxer winner of the fight, hence the UBO belt was subsequently sent to Nigeria.
Oluwo also applauded the Francis Aiyegbeni Boxing Club that is being managed by the duagther of the late famous Boxing Promoter, Edna Bola Aiyegbeni for producing ID Burster and many other talented top boxers, while promising to creat more secured and enable environment where sports and other youths oriented programmes will strive in Iwoland.
Oba Abdulrasheed, the Telu 1 however appreaciate the efforts of Oyo State branch of NBBofC under the leadership of Hon. Gbenga Opaleye in developing profesional boxing in the State with many positive results to show for the efforts, saying they should beam their searchlight to Iwoland for more boxing talents.
