🟢Lament non payment of “May Pay” till the time of filling this report under heavy downpour in Owerri by 9News.

Imo Workers Plan To Embark On Heavy Protest

IMO: There are serious underscore indications pointing out that Imo workers and their labour unions may likely resume strike over non payment of May salary this week as 9News Nigeria reports.

The plan is for every sector of workforce in Imo state Nigeria to shutdown services in the state on the reason of delay of Month of May salary which has not been paid till the time of filling this report this raining afternoon at 10-06-2024 by 9News Nigeria.

This moves by workers in Imo state will likely bring a set back against the few good feats of accomplishments recorded by Governor Uzodinma’s led APC administration, if no immediate attention is given to pay off May salaries of workers and pension.

Speaking with Newsmen in Owerri, the capital city of Imo state Nigeria, Workers had shown readiness and were furious under the rain over non payment of monthly salary, linking the untold hardship created out of it to a state of administrative lockdown .

Till Date , it is unbelievable to note that Imo state workers have not received May Salary while the month of June is almost going half.

Today is dated 10th of June and no May salary was paid to workers by the shared prosperity administration under Governor Uzodinma.

Reason is not far fetched to the insinuation that unless the Federal Government releases monthly allocation to the state , Imo cannot pay salaries with the internally generated revenue couped locally.

Imo

However, there are speculations that the worst may soon hit the Eastern Heartland on the ravaging hunger and high cost of market commodities and cost of living coupled with high cost of house rents prevalent in Imo.

The prevailing situation is causing high crime prone, indiscipline, corruption and lack of confidence in the present day administrative dispensation. They further added that Governor Uzodinma is a good listener and will hear their cries at the break of this News by 9News Nigeria.

However, troops of civil servants who spoke to 9News , out of camera expressed bitterness on such a drastic delay of May salary and pension by state government till the 10th day of June. “Monthly salary is expected to drop from 28th to 02nd day of the new month, not waiting in hunger and starving this far.

Those who spoke to our correspondent in anonymous stand told us that the suffering bedevilling the masses is hugely caused by government whose authority lies in their hand to take the welfare, salaries and security of its citizens as most Paramount.

“How can a sensible government owe or delay workers salary for no just cause while same workers come to work every working day of the entire month, they asked 9News.

Explaining further, “Imo is a civil service state and the government should not play with Imo workers, talk more of delaying monthly salaries and pensions.

“We cannot be suffering high prices of market Commodities, fuel and gas increases, transportation, feeding and house rents and still on that our small salaries cannot be regularly paid as at when do to payoff some bills.

Imo workers

When asked the expected date of payment, “at least from 28th to 2nd of the preceding month, salaries are to be paid to workers.

“Regular payment as at when do, will help workers plan with the cash on hand and guard monthly expenses including other pressing bills already incurred within the month. It is not easy with the old salary structure and the recent N60,000.00 deliberation of new salary scale cannot solve any challenges at this time cost of commodities are too high

“If we did not express our feelings publicly, the people’s Governor, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma may not understand the pain and horrible situation bedevilling Imo workers. He may not even be aware that workers are not paid of salaries yet.

“We want to approach our state labour unions to as a matter of urgency, call an emergency meeting to effect a warning strike cum peaceful protest in the state.

“We can also create awareness through a Peaceful protest involving every Imo worker and all unions to tell the government our predicaments and demands.

“The people’s Governor, our own Onwa Uzodinma will hear us and find a lasting solution to delay of Imo workers monthly salary, most importantly our May salary which has not be released till 10th of June.

Imo State civil servants have not been paid MAY salary till today dated 10th JUNE, 2024. It is becoming an unbelievable tradition and reality that without the release of Federal allocation by FG , state IGR cannot be recouped to pay Imo even Imo workers.

The non payment has also affected both several businesses, Night life, fun, transportation and people’s movement because without workers being paid on time , money will not circulate across boards as 9News Nigeria reports.

It is therefore an urgent call to IMSG to as a matter of utmost importance, pay May salary to Imo workers before another phase of NLC shutdown will hit the state as hinted.

While speaking to 9News this afternoon at the secretariat, under the rain, Imo workers were not happy by the May Salary delay having been able to obey the rules of government to demystify the gridlock of IPOB Monday sit-at-home order to resume work, well seated at respective offices.

The New minimum wage discussion between labour and FG cannot be the reason for the delay of May salary of Imo workers because some other states in the same country have paid their workers without stress while the NLC/Government resolve lasts.
