The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi said let’s stay focused on issues that will lead to a new Nigeria not gloating about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s fall during the Democracy Day held on June 12, 2024 at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

The former Governor of Anambra State described the incident as unfortunate and wished the President well following the incident.
At the Eagle Square on Wednesday Tinubu approached the vehicle shortly after he arrived at the venue of the 2024 Democracy Day, but lost his footing momentarily as he was about to step into the vehicle.
He, however regained his balance, despite the slip and continued with the proceedings.
This development attracted several reactions from Nigerians, while others downplayed the incident as the President went on with the ceremonial rounds.
In a series of posts vis official X handle on Wednesday, Obi criticized those mocking the President over the incident, saying that such could happen to any human being.
The former Governor of Anambra State also asked Nigerians to remember common human weakness and stay with attention directed to what is important, with clear aims.
Obi said while he and the President may disagree on the way to move Nigeria forward, the incident calls for compassion and empathy.
He wrote:
“I was saddened to learn of President Tinubu’s unfortunate fall on (Wednesday, June 12).
I wish him well. We achieve nothing by gloating about an accident that could happen to any of us.
“We are all human being and, while we profoundly disagree on how to move Nigeria forward, we must remember our common human frailty. Let us stay focused on there issues that will lead to a new Nigeria.
“May this moment serve as poignant reminder of our shared humanity and the need for compassion, empathy, and unity in our pursuit of a brighter future for our great nation”.
