Residents of Makurdi, the Benue State headquarters were last night thrown into confusion due to flood.
9News Nigeria gathered that,the flood was as a result of the heavy downpour that began in Makurdi from 8:00 PM on Thursday to 10:00 am on Friday leaving a lot of residents stranded as their homes was no longer accessible.
Areas in affected heavily were, High-level,Apir,Tyo-Mu,Wadata,Idye,Part of North -Bank, Wurukum,Achusa.
Some residents who spoke about their ordeals call on the government of Benue State to begin construction of more water channels and drainages.They also spoke about the need for constant environmental sanitation in other for constant disposal of waste at the appropriate channels.
Makurdi in the past years has always been ravaged with incessant flooding with the government of Benue being helpless about the situation.Recently a drainage was commissioned in Makurdi by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was ably represented by the Nigeria’s SGF, Senator George Akume.
To further curtail this menace of flooding in Makurdi the governor of Benue State,His Excellency Gov.Hyacinth Iormem Alia has began the construction of drainages and roads in Akpehe, High-level and Ishat Bakut road of Makurdi Metropolis.
An official statement from the government of Benue State was yet to be made regarding the flooding as at the time of filling this report.
