Collation of Youths in Plateau State on Tuesday in Jos called on planners of the nationwide protest slated for August 01, 2024 to shelve their agitation, stating that the rally is not in the nation’s interest.
The group made this statement during a press conference in the Plateau State capital.
The Convener of the groups Comrade Prince Miaphen, said the negative impacts of the protest are likely to outweigh any political benefits.
“The planned hardship protest slated for August , is a ploy to destabilize Nigeria and therefore, urged Nigerians not to participate in such a grand plot against democracy under the guise of pretext”
Comrade Prince Miaphen, who acknowledged that there is hunger and hardship in the Country, stated there are other better ways of presenting the predicament of Nigerians to the government instead of a protest, which can be easily hijacked by miscreants and other anti-democratic elements.
In his words, “There is nothing in the protest less than a plot to enthrone anarchy and destabilize the Country, and we can assure that our compatriots that it will never happen because Nigeria does not belong to those anarchists only”.
He stressed that, “Indeed, the agenda’s is very sinister, and the intentions is clearly criminal”.
“While the right to protect is an integral part of any democracy, it is essential to acknowledge the negative consequences that can arise when protests are conducted”, he added.
Miaphen blamed the current economic crunch and other challenges in the Country on the failure of the past administrations and called on citizens, particularly the youths to reject the protest.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led administratiion has embarked on critical reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy of the nation toward bettering the lots of Nigerians and alleged that the planned protest is to invite Nigerians and discredit the current administration in the Country.
