The Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Mele Kyari, has urged the military to maintain its robust efforts against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, highlighting the positive impact these actions have had on Nigeria’s crude oil production. According to Kyari, the intensified operations by the armed forces and other security agencies have been instrumental in achieving production levels not seen in the past three years.

According to the press release issued by the chief corporate communication officer, Mr Olufemi Soneye, this appeal was made during a visit by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, who, along with senior military officers, paid a courtesy call to the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Tuesday.

Kyari acknowledged the significant contributions of the military in securing critical hydrocarbon assets, particularly in the Niger Delta region. He noted that the coordinated security measures have been pivotal in safeguarding the nation’s pipeline infrastructure, leading to increased production. “We have reached a new peak in production, directly linked to the sustained efforts by the armed forces and other security agencies to protect our critical assets,” Kyari said.

He further commended General Musa and his team for their unwavering commitment to this cause, emphasizing the global importance of these achievements. Kyari expressed confidence in the military’s ability to fulfill the Presidential mandate to address security-related challenges affecting the nation’s oil production.

General Musa, in his remarks, introduced the Monitoring Team responsible for interfacing with NNPC Ltd. and other stakeholders in the oil-producing regions to secure critical hydrocarbon infrastructure. He reiterated the military’s commitment to sustaining the onslaught against oil theft, while also analyzing and enhancing the capabilities of troops to boost productivity.

General Musa stressed the importance of collaboration among intelligence agencies, private security, state governments, and host communities to achieve optimal results. “Working in silos won’t give us the best results. I want to assure you that we will collaborate with the necessary stakeholders to achieve our set targets as mandated by Mr. President,” he stated.

The visit underscored the critical role of security in the nation’s energy sector, as both parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s crude oil production through sustained security efforts.
