The Vacation FCT High Court, led by Justice Nwosu Iheme, has ordered maintenance of existing status quo injunction in favour of Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin of Deliverance Mercy Land International Ministry, Warri, Delta State. The order targets Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, commonly known as “Very Dark Man,” a popular YouTuber and blogger who brands himself as a freedom fighter on social media platforms like Facebook.

This injunction follows an ongoing lawsuit initiated by Prophet Jeremiah against Otse for alleged defamation.

During the court proceedings, Prophet Jeremiah’s legal representative, Samuel Ihensekhien Jnr., informed the court that he received two counter affidavits just before entering the courtroom and had not had the opportunity to review them in detail. Nevertheless, he indicated readiness to proceed with a preliminary injunction.

In response, the defendant’s lead counsel, Barr. Ademola Ademokun, mentioned that he had already submitted a response to the affidavits and was seeking an extension to file a counter affidavit, along with a statement of defense and counterclaim.

Prophet Jeremiah’s legal team also submitted a document emphasizing the harm caused by the alleged defamatory content, which had been widely disseminated among his family, church members, and friends.

After hearing from both parties, Justice Iheme ordered that the status quo be maintained. The case, which highlights the complexities of defamation law in the age of social media, has gained significant public interest.

The court adjourned the case to Friday, September 6, 2024, for a definite hearing on all applications.
