NNPC Ltd has launched the third edition of the Vision First Programme, a key initiative under its comprehensive community healthcare outreach, targeting the Ilaje community and surrounding areas in Bariga, Lagos State.
This programme, part of the NNPC Ltd/SNEPCo Production Sharing Contract (PSC) commitment, aims to enhance health and well-being in its host communities. Through Vision First, over 1,000 individuals will receive free eye care services, alongside other essential healthcare offerings such as cardiovascular screenings, BMI assessments, laboratory services, consultations, treatment for mild and chronic diseases, and distribution of insecticide-treated nets.
Since its inception, the Vision First programme has had a profound impact, providing free eye care to over 1,853 individuals. The Lagos edition, which began in 2022, has already screened 2,000 people, provided 1,199 prescription glasses, administered medication to 1,310 beneficiaries, and facilitated successful eye surgeries for 189 individuals.
This initiative is in line with the Mallam Mele Kyari-led management’s commitment to positively impacting NNPC Ltd’s host communities and improving the quality of life for Nigerians through sustainable partnerships.
Speaking on the programme, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (CUIO – NUIMS), Mr. Bala Wunti, emphasized that the Vision First Plus programme is a testament to the company’s dedication to restoring hope and improving lives within its host communities.
“Through this programme, we aim to ensure that preventable vision challenges do not hinder anyone’s potential. By providing eye screenings, corrective lenses, surgeries, and general healthcare, we are committed to bringing clarity and brighter futures to those who need it most,” stated Wunti, represented by Mrs. Bunmi Lawson.
The outreach underscored the importance of proactive health management, stressing that healthy eyes contribute to a brighter future. Participants were encouraged to protect their vision with regular check-ups, a balanced diet, and adequate rest.
The Vision First programme exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and NNPC Ltd’s commitment to giving back to the communities where it operates. It also highlights the company’s dedication to investing in social initiatives that create lasting, positive impact.
