The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested a Nigerian national at Lahore International Airport in charges of drug smuggling.
The suspect who had flown in from Nigeria via Dubai, was found with 38 cocaine-filled capsules hidden in his stomach.
According to ANF spokesperson, a total of 608 grams of cocaine was recovered from the capsules.
The arrest underscores a worrisome and accelerating trend of transnational drug smuggling, with foreign nationals playing a significant role.
Notably, Nigerian nationals have disproportionately represented in these cases.
In 2023, 10 Nigerian nationals were arrested in similar cases with a total of 4,811 kilograms of contraband seized.
This year, authorities have already conducted seven operations, leading to the arrest of eight Nigerian individuals and the recovery of 11,420 kilograms of narcotics, highlighting the the urgent need for for enhanced international cooperation.
Thus far in the current year, law enforcement agencies have undertaken a series of rigorous operations, which have yielded significant results in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
However, the suspect is being charged with Anti-Narcotics Act, and further investigation are underway.
