Abuja Minister Nyesom Wike was at home to supervise the recent state Congress of people’s democratic Party PDP in Rivers state Nigeria. He supervised the Congress alongside his FCT colleagues who stormed the state over the weekend for the Congress.

Over the weekend, the Rivers state PDP went on to conduct party state Congress inspite court order slammed against the it as 9News reports.

This development raises questions about the party’s respect for the rule of law and the implications for its internal democracy.

Despite a High Court order barring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting its congress in Rivers State, the party proceeded with the event on Saturday.

The congress, supervised by FCT Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, aims to elect new state executives according to the PDP Constitution and Time Table.

The event is notable for the absence of the State Governor’s input, instead being overseen by national officers loyal to the PDP Acting National Chairman.

This move comes after a High Court in Port Harcourt issued an interim order on Tuesday, suspending the PDP congress in Rivers State, pending the determination of a motion on notice filed by several plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs, including Hon. David Chiinedu Omereji and others, had filed suit PHC/2282/CS/2024 against the PDP, its National Chairman, National Financial Secretary, and National Organising Secretary.

The court’s order specifically stated that the PDP congress should not hold on July 27 or any other date or location until the motion is determined.

However, the Rivers PDP has chosen to disregard the court order, proceeding with the congress under the supervision of Minister Wike, who arrived in Port Harcourt on Friday.

Recall there was a High Court order barring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting its congress in Rivers State but the party proceeded with the event on Saturday strongly supervised by FCT Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, alongside his FCT bigheads in PDP.
