Following the devastating floods that has affected communities from April 15 to September 9, 2024, in Yobe State, authorities have issued an urgent flood warning for it’s residents.
The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in the gave the warning on Tuesday in a statement, while advising residents to take precautionsionary measures.
The agency said that communities living in water ways and lower grounds should relocate to higher grounds to safeguard lives and property.
The warning comes in light of the anticipated discharge from Dadinkowa Dam, Hadeja-Jama’are River, River Kamodugu, and Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, which could exacerbate the current flooding situation.
The ongoing floods have already caused extensive damage across several Local Government Areas (LGAs), leaving communities vulnerable.
While several have lost valuable properties and are displaced in their thousands, the imminent flood is likely to exacerbate the situation, rendering even more residents homeless.
However, the entire populace of Yobe state, especially those around river banks are adviced to stay alert and maintain SEMA’s emergency contacts to tackle the issue.
Residents are also urged to remain vigilant to mitigate potential risks associated with the anticipated flood impacts.
