The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Obetekun has said that three police stations have been damaged by flood in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital.

This he disclosed in Maiduguri on Monday when he visited the state to assess the situation and sympathize with victims of the devastating flood disaster.

The flood has affected several communities in the state and rendered thousands homeless, as well as destroyed businesses and important public and private facilities.

During his visit, the IGP met with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum at the Borno State Government house.

He commended the swift response of the governor while they discussed about relief efforts and rebuilding the affected areas.

In his remarks the IGP acknowledged the impact of the flood on the police community, noting that three police stations and outposts affected, as well as the modern police training school in the city.

The damage, he said has hindered police operations in the affected areas and pledged the support of the Nigerian Police Force in relief efforts and rebuilding affected police institutions.

He added that the force is committed to helping those affected by the flood.

However, the IGP has ordered the rebuilding of the affected police facilities in Maiduguri, as disclosed in a press statement on Monday evening.

While responding, Governor Zulum expressed gratitude for the IGP’s visit and the support of the police force in addressing the flood crisis.

Similarly, the governor praised the police for their efforts during the recent protest and their role in rescuing individuals affected by the flood in Maiduguri.

Zulum also congratulated the IGP on his confirmation and assured him of his administration’s support in rebuilding damaged police structures.

He emphasized that the support will help restore police operations in the affected areas.
