Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor, VC, University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID, following his brief stint in that capacity.
This came during a special meeting of the university Governing Council held on Wednesday.
The announcement was made known through a press release signed by Ahmad A. Lawan, the school registrar.
The decision follows the recommendations from the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, who reviewed four candidates for the position.
Professor Mele, a distinguished scholar in English Language and Linguistics, brings over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and community service to the role.
Prior to this appointment, he served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor and held various key positions, including Head of department of English and Literary studies, Sub dean of the faculty of arts and Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Central Administration, Unimaid.
Renowned for his scholarly contributions, Professor Mele has received numerous awards both nationally and internationally.
Hailed from Mafa local government area of Borno State, he is known for his commitment to mentoring young professionals, and involvement in community service.
