Borno Flood Victims Gets Relief Items From Police Officers Wives

Police Officers Wives Association, POWA, an association of wives of police officers, led by the wife of a serving inspector general of police, has provided relief items to vulnerable women and widows of fallen police officers affected by the recent floods in Maiduguri.

Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, the POWA president and wife of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, led the distribution on Friday.

The items which includes food and other essential items was recieved by over 200 beneficiaries at a one-day working visit to the state.

In the state, the president extended her condolences to Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the state governor.

Some of the items include 25 kg bags of rice, mattresses, toiletries, medical supplies, as well as clothing to each of the affected police families.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State command, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal said that the flood disaster was one of the worst disasters in the living history of the state since its creation in 1967.

He added that her visit to the state was timely as the flood has affected police barracks across the city, causing widespread destruction and displacement.

Barr. Zara Umar Yakubu, the POWA chairlady in Borno also conveyed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, acknowledging the timely support and prayer.
