Senator Suswam calls out Tinubu’s Govt for Lack of direction , Ineffective policies

Senator Gabriel Suswam, the former Governor of Benue State, has expressed concerns that the current Tinubu-led APC government lacks direction, with all policies having fallen ¹. This criticism comes after six months of President Tinubu’s administration, which has been marred by various challenges, including human rights violations and insecurity.

According to Amnesty International, President Tinubu’s government has failed to uphold human rights and the rule of law, with rampant human rights violations across the country ². The organization has launched a human rights agenda for the government, calling for concrete actions to protect and uphold the rights of everyone in Nigeria.

Senator Suswam’s criticism and Amnesty International’s report suggest that the Tinubu-led APC government needs to take urgent action to address these challenges and ensure that human rights are respected and protected in Nigeria.

Former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has lamented the current hardship in the country and the adverse effect on many Nigerian homes.

that Suswam, while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, decried that a crate of eggs less than N1,000 is now N10,000 due to the current economic hardship.

He said the current cost of eggs would make it difficult for him and other Nigerians to afford eggs in their houses.

The senator also urged President Bola Tinubu to reevaluate his economic team by calling for an urgent meeting, stressing that many Nigerians find it challenging to transport themselves to work.

He said, “A crate of eggs that was less than N1,000 is N10,000 now. So it means that me and you can’t afford to eat eggs in our houses. I left government for almost 10 years.

“The President should call a meeting not just on economics; people cannot transport themselves to their offices, people cannot afford to feed their families.”

Meanwhile, Suswam, has said he is still in the race to become the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Gabriel Suswam, who is one of the PDP national chairmanship aspirants, stated this on Thursday, during an emergency stakeholders meeting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Suswam noted that it was right for the North Central to replace the former national chairman, Iyochia Ayu, in line with the party’s constitution.

He explained that he had gotten the backing of the state’s party members. He argued that the national leaders of the party would select who will replace the former national chairman and it will not be through any election.

The former governor of Benue dismissed reports of crisis within the party in the state.

He explained that some mischief makers wanted to hoodwink and take control of the party in the state.

He added that the PDP would have won the 2023 governorship election if not for the activities of some mischief makers.

Some of the key issues highlighted by Amnesty International include:

  • Human Rights Violations: Extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and incommunicado detention, particularly in the northeast ².
  • Insecurity: Rising cost of living, poverty, and insecurity, including the killing of civilians in Southern Kaduna and violent clashes between farming and herding communities ².
  • Lack of Accountability: Failure to investigate and prosecute perpetrators of human rights violations, including the military and police ².
