The Executive Governor Of Benue State,Rev.Fr.Dr.Hyacinth Iormem Alia on Wednesday suspended the commissioner of justice and Public order,Barr.Fidelis Mnyim, Indefinitely over EFCC illegality.
9News Nigeria gathered that,the suspension came few hours after a court case between Hon.Austin Agada (APC chairman),Gov Alia and the APC National working committee {NWC}.
Recall that,the Governor had rejected Hon.Austin Agada as his party chairman imidiately after his election as the Benue governor.The governor later handpicked Omakolo as his chairman then the current Omale from the National Working Committee.
Trouble started wehen Hon.Austin Agada’s candidates for the local government election were rejected and Omale’s candidates were Abducted and sworn in as the chairmen, Councillors across the state.
Before Omale’s emergence,Hon.Agada has gone to the High Court led by Mrs Theresa Igoche to obtain and injunction restricting the National Working Committee of the APC not to remove him as APC chairman Benue State,and injection which was served and acknowledged by the party secretariat.Sadly,the National Working Committee still went ahead to Remove Agada, reasons Agada is challenging the process.
The erstwhile Benue Commissioner for Justice Barr.Mnyim was the lead counsel for the governor, sadly the lost two motions against Agada when the case was brought before the Benue state High Court.
It was also gathered that,Benue state government joined the case 3 months ago over EFCC illegality but the learned silk was suspended yesterday via a Statement issued by Sir,Kula Tersoo (Chief Press Secretary to the governor).
The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has directed the Attorney General of the State and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim, to proceed on indefinite suspension.
The Governor gave the directive at Government House during a press conference shortly after the Benue State Executive Council meeting earlier today.
He stated that the suspension was necessitated by Barr. Mnyim’s ultra vires decision to join the state in a suit challenging the legality of anti-graft agencies, namely the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
“No appointee is permitted to act unilaterally. No matter how pressing or urgent the issue is, one must resort to due consultations with me or appropriately brief me and seek my permission before acting, especially in a sensitive matter such as this.
“My administration is holding accountable those who embezzled money and drained our state dry. The EFCC and ICPC are assisting us in this effort.
“How can I now turn around and begin to challenge these watchdogs? I gave no permission for him to enter an appearance for the state. Because he acted on his own, I hereby suspend him indefinitely pending a satisfactory explanation of his actions.”
