After 10-Year Displacement, Gajibo Community Returns Home, Performs Congregation Prayer

By Ali Mohammed Zanna (9NEWS NIGERIA, BORNO STATE)

The people of Gajibo town, a community under Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State, has made a historic return to their ancestral home after being displaced for ten years due to insurgency.

This momentous occasion took place on Friday, as community members gathered for a heartfelt reunion coinciding with their Jumma’at congregation prayer.

The prayer, led by Alh Babagana Iman, the Deputy Chief Imam of the Gajibo ward, symbolized the community’s resilience and determination for a new beginning.

In his summon, the Iman called for enduring peace in the community and Borno as well as other parts of Nigeria, while emphasizing the importance of prayer and supporting the less fortunate.

Prominent figures, including the Chairman of Dikwa, Alhaji Rawa Gana Modu, and the District Head of Gajibo/Fada, Alhaji Babakura Dikwama, attended the prayers.

Other respected elders from the community were also in attendance.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum’s initiative to construct 300 housing units facilitated the community’s return, enabling them to start anew.

The gradual restoration of peace in the region made this historic homecoming possible, marking the community’s victory over adversity.

As many of them have lost their means of livelihoods, they now depend on government, NGOs and other development partners to support their struggle of starting afresh.
