The Ubah Fc has clinched the trophy for the 2024 edition of the Orogwe Youths Association(OYA) soccer championship after beating Amato Fc by a lone goal at the end of an excruciating finals at the Orogwe Central School in Owerri West.
Dignities that graced the finals of the nineteen day soccer grand finale included the State President of Ohanaeze Sir Barr CJ Ihemedu and wife Mrs Nkeiru Ihemedu who was the Chairman of the occasion, the Executive Chairman of Owerri West Hon Victor Osigwe who was the Special Guest of honour, the Councilor for Irete/Orogwe ward Hon Chigemezu Ejiogu and Dr Charles Okpe.
Others were Hon Frank Osuji from Owerri Municipal, Irete Youth President Comrade Fabian Ononogbo, Sir Clifford Ahuakagha, Sir Goddy Ahuakagha, Home branch Chairman OCDU Mr Onyekachi Nnosiri and Sir Jerome Anorue as well as Engineer Uche Ubanwa amongst others.
Although it was not a speech making day, Sir CJ Ihemedu, Hon Victor Osigwe, Hon Chigemezu Ejiogu in their remarks agreed that sports, especially soccer, is a veritable tool in youth empowerment programmes.
They agreed that such occasions elicit decorum and friendliness amongst the youths and Commended the youth body for a good outing.
President Orogwe Youths Association, Comrade Uche Ogbuehi thanked the Youth Association for believing in him, the dignities for attending, the teams and spectators for conducting themselves.
The finals in which Engineer Ifeanyi Nwadiaru stood as Centre referee assisted by Kingsley Sunday and Frank Emegwa featured presentation of trophy to the champions, prize for the second team went to Amato fc just as third place winners Umunjanwoke Fc had something too.
The youngest player award went to Emmanuel Chinonso of Amato fc, best keeper Ikenna Ononogbo of Amato, best Coach Freeway Ugorji of Ubah, Micheal Amasike of Ubah was the best player of the tournaments, highest goal scorer was Uche Duruekeugbala while Umunomo fc bagged the most behaved team award.
The Orogwe Youths Association piloted by Comrade Ogbuehi is assisted by Mr Promise Onwuneme while Mr Chris Anyanwu is the Secretary General and Mr Sampson Ejiogu the Sports Director.
Other Exco members included Messers Sampson Opara (treasurer), Christian Obikwere (Finsec), Chukwuka Justice (Welfare) and Miss Ihuoma Duru(Gender Coordinator).
Messers Ebere Azu is PRO, Chukwuemeka Duru Provost 1 and Chiemeka Oke Provost 2.
