NIGERIA: Senate Reshuffles Standing Committee’s Leadership

Nigerian Senate has reshuffled the leadership of Senate standing committees following the official schedule of the leadership led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio MFR. The aim is not far fetched to boosting economical and infrastructural development across zones. The commissions can also improve several human empowerment to improve the youths for further inclusivity into the leadership mainstream of the country.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assent to bills establishing development commissions for the regions in the country is therefore a welcome development. It is left in the hands of the appointee as duty demands to call for town hall meetings to capture pressing challenges that may likely differ from region to region just as every region in the country has its developmental variation.

The bill gave rise to the Senate to appoint chairmen and Deputy chairmen of standing committees to oversight several commissions as mentioned in this news report by 9News Nigeria.

However, it is expected of the appointees of various commission to take up responsibility to bring onboard unwavering developmental plans and strategies to give Nigeria the best of service delivery.

Having the core mandate of revitalizing various zones and regions in the President Tinubu’s renewed hope administration will be wholly targetted at the inclusivity of stakeholders, technocrats and Youth bodies to facilitate development.

It is on this mandate the Senate have reshuffled the leadership of several standing committees to assist in the policy plan to salvage all the regions in Nigeria.

Following the assent of President Bola Tinubu therefore to bills establishing development commissions for the regions in the country, Senate has appointed chairmen and deputy chairmen of standing committees to oversight the commissions.

Those appointed as announced by the President of the Senate Godswill Obot Akpabio are:

  1. Senator Babangida Hussaini and Muntari Dandutse as Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate committee on North West Development Commission;
  2. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Kenneth Eze are the Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively for the Senate committee on South East Development Commission;
  3. Sen Titus Zam Tartenger and Senator Isa Jibrin are the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on North Central Development Commission;

Senate has also reshuffled leadership of some standing committees as Senator Abdul Ningi moved from Population to head the Senate committee on FERMA while Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan is the Chairman on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisation, she previously heads the committee on local content.

Also appointed is Senator Garba Maidoki as Chairman Senate Committee on Sports development, Senator Joel Thomas is the new Chairman Senate committee on Local Content, while Senator Victor Umeh is now the Chairman Senate committee on National Population and NIMC having been moved from the Senate committee on Diaspora.

Nigerians are on the highway of expectation to see rapid development manifest across regions having established the Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of various commissions as 9News Nigeria reports.
