The 8th edition of the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) kicked off in grand style with a Ministerial Welcome Dinner, setting the stage for insightful discussions on Africa’s energy future. Delivering his remarks, Mr. Abdulrazaq Isa, OFR, Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG), underscored the summit’s significance and the transformative strides within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Speaking on behalf of IPPG, the Premium Partner for this year’s summit, Isa extended heartfelt appreciation to the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, and his counterpart in Gas, Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, for their leadership in advancing the industry. He also welcomed foreign dignitaries, notably OPEC Secretary General, H.E. Haitham Al Ghais, and APPO Secretary General, Dr. Omar Ibrahim, among others, emphasizing the importance of global partnerships in shaping Africa’s energy landscape.
Reflecting on last year’s summit, Isa celebrated a major milestone—the successful establishment of the Africa Energy Bank (AEB) with its headquarters in Nigeria. He commended Sen. Lokpobiri’s unwavering commitment to making this vision a reality, recognizing APPO and Afreximbank for their instrumental roles in its creation. The AEB, he noted, is a game-changer that will enable Africa to take charge of its energy destiny through deeper collaboration and self-sufficiency.
This year’s summit comes at a pivotal time, as Nigeria’s oil and gas sector undergoes significant transformation. With the completion of International Oil Companies’ (IOC) divestments, local independent producers now hold a dominant stake in onshore and shallow water operations, marking a defining moment for the industry. Isa highlighted this shift as a promising development, reinforcing IPPG’s role in driving the sector’s growth and sustainability.
In a symbolic moment at the dinner, Isa unveiled IPPG’s new logo, signifying a renewed commitment to the industry’s advancement. “For over a decade, IPPG has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s energy renaissance. This rebranding reflects our vision for an industry that stands as a national pride and a key player in the global energy space,” he stated.
Concluding his address, Isa expressed gratitude to the summit organizers for curating a platform that fosters dialogue and collaboration. He urged stakeholders to engage meaningfully in shaping the future of Nigeria’s energy sector, setting the tone for what promises to be an impactful summit.
