The Presidency has dismissed the possibility of any opposition alliance defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the declaration during an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Thursday night.
According to the presidential aide, “Even if you merge Peter Obi and Atiku together, there is no way the two of them can beat a Bola Tinubu and Shettima ticket. It is going to be impossible.”
Reacting to the recent opposition coalition, which adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform ahead of the 2027 polls, Onanuga said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is unbothered by the realignment.
“They are free to form alliances, but as far as the APC is concerned, we are not seeing them as any threat,” he said.
The coalition includes prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Osun governor, Rauf Aregbesola; and former Senate President, David Mark, among others.
Onanuga maintained that President Tinubu’s track record in office would be his strongest campaign asset, insisting that the opposition is “jumping the gun” by beginning early politicking.
“They are jumping the gun, it is not yet time for politicking,” he noted
