Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroon’s long serving President Paul Biya, has openly called on citizens not to vote for her father in the October 2025 presidential election.
Brenda, known online as “King N+asty”, made the appeal during a TikTok Live session, accusing the 92-year-old leader of dragging the country into poverty, unemployment, and decades of stagnation.
Her comments mark the first time in African political history that a child of a sitting President has publicly opposed their parent’s rule.
The 27-year-old Cameroon’s first daughter said that she would “cut” all contact with her parents and said her family had mistreated her, as well as people close to her “wanting her dead”.
She then pivoted the politics, saying that she would “not vote for Paul Biya” and that she “hoped there would be another president.”.
However, the video has gone viral and has been welcomed by the political opposition.
No official reaction has come from the presidency or the government.
Paul Biya, in power since 1982, is one of the world’s longest serving Heads of States. His government has long faced allegations of authoritarianism, corruption, human rights abuses, and disputed elections.
In July, Biya confirm his bid for an eighth term in office, announcing his candidacy on X in both French and English.
“I am a candidate for the 12 October 2025 presidential election,”, he declared, assuring Cameroonians of his continued committed to tackling national challenges.
In a formal statement titled Declaration of Candidacy for the 12 October 2025 Presidential Election Paul Biya, the President said he remained devoted to safeguarding the nation’s security and well-being.
He argued that mounting domestic and international challenges required his continued leadership.
“I cannot shirk my mission”, Biya stated” I have therefore decided to heed the numerous and insistent calls from ten regions of our country and from the diaspora. The best is yet to come”.
